A campaign is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project hopes to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.

A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”

Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.

“It has a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Production History and Featured Artists

The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.

The diverse array of artists appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of well-known figures from the scene. All were part of the earlier concert, which successfully generated a substantial amount for relief efforts.

Final Touches and Availability

Lullaby was crafted by a trio of talented individuals. The single features a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.

The group managing the initiative have stated that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.

“There is no a specific target,” a spokesperson commented. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the more the merrier. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”

The situation in the area was noted for its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of buildings reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.

“Against that backdrop, a couple of million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is primarily making this cause better known and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”

The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
