The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
